Suitable for All Skill Levels, ages 16+
Learn how to make unique patterns and designs on cloth and paper using simple techniques to achieve stunning results!
Your tutor, Samantha Tannous, will show you how to use folding, clamping, binding an stitching to manipulate your materials before submerging them into dye vats of deep blue indigo, pale tinted indigo and a “surprise” natural dye vat of a complementary colour.
Sam will offer plenty of fabrics and paper for sale, including silk scarves that you can wear home.
If you want to bring some of your own ‘stash’, please do. Small lengths of fabric, skeins of yarn, a cotton shirt to “upcycle”, or lovely papers such as cotton rag or mulberry papers – natural materials are best.
There will be plenty of “tools” such as string, clamps, arashi poles and other materials that you need to create your designs, as well as some reference books for inspiration. Sam will guide you in how to use these items to create unique designs.
This is a two-day workshop, so that you have plenty of time to try the different vats and techniques, and perhaps try some more complex dyeing on the second day.
