About Fiona

Fiona is a mixed-media artist whose love of string vessels, fibre, textiles and beads has led to an eclectic array of wearable and non-wearable artworks – particularly since 1999, though her love of creating started when she was very young.

Her main modalities are coiled basketry, beadwork, contemporary quilting, hand-stitching, and Kumihimo braiding. Fiona’s particular passions are for making jewellery and sculptural forms. She is well-known for her love of vibrant colour and a somewhat quirky aesthetic.

Teaching is Fiona’s other life-long interest, and she has pursued this in various formats: primary school teaching (1978–1981); English teaching in Tokyo (1985–1987); Diploma of Aromatherapy teaching (2000–2005), and since late 2005 she has taught a wide array of her fibre, textile and bead-based workshops along the eastern seaboard of Australia.

Fiona has had profiles and projects published in many Australian textile art, quilting and beading magazines. She has received many awards and prizes for her work over the years, and continues to exhibit her artworks.
